Sports, Leisure & Recreation

The rural surroundings and the small town center invite you to go for a walk. You will find a bowling alley directly in our house, a fun pool and a sauna in nearby Würselen. It is about 2 km to the Würselen Forest.

Excursion destinations around the Hotel Mennicken:

Aachen

The district-free Bad Aachen, 6 km away in the border area to the Netherlands and Belgium, offers far-reaching sights for visitors and vacationers. First and foremost, the Aachen Cathedral and treasury is the symbol of the city and the pride of the 250,000 residents. With the RWTH, Aachen is not only one of the largest and most important technical universities in Germany, but also in the world. In addition to the Elisenbrunnen with its sulphurous thermal water and the medieval city fortifications, there are other fountains, monuments and parks that invite you to visit and linger. And if you are tired of guided tours steeped in history, you can also go shopping in Aachen.

You can get to Aachen (as an alternative to the car) very easily by bus (via the bus stop in front of the hotel) or by bike.

Maastricht

The Dutch city of Maastricht can be reached after a good half hour’s drive by car. As a popular place for education, culture and recreation, the city also offers some incentives for shopping and it is not without reason that it is named European Capital of Culture in 2018. Sights include the Saint Servatius Basilica, Liebfrauenplatz or the Maas, which invite you to linger and soul dangle in. The grottos on the Sinnt-Pietersberg with their constant temperature of 10 degrees are also very popular. In the summer months, German tours are also offered here.

CHIO

The World Equestrian Festival attracts countless horse lovers and interested parties to the Aachen Soers every year. The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein organizes the Aachen CHIO with the disciplines of show jumping, dressage, driving and eventing/eventing and helps the city to gain worldwide attention every year. The main event, the Aachen Grand Prix, is held every year on the Sunday of the event. The jumping stadium can be reached from the hotel by bike or with a long walk (approx. 7 km). You can also use public transport to get back.

Eifel

We could maintain an almost endless list of sights and excursion destinations in the Eifel. Whether it’s natural beauties, churches, dams, castles, museums or monuments, the Eifel can offer them all and there are even more of them.
